Ultimate Kedarnath Travel Guide

The Kedarnath Temple, which is around 1200 years old, is one of the holiest sites in India. The Pandavas built it to atone for the sin of murdering their blood relatives. "Adi Shankaracharya" finished the temple's repair. According to mythology, Lord Shiva appears as a Shivling at Kedarnath.

Kedarnath is not only the most sacred pilgrimage site, but it is also part of the famed Char Dham Yatra, a soul-pleasing trip surrounded by snow-capped hills. The Kedarnath pilgrimage, famous for its ancient Shiva temple, blends the thrill of a sacred place with one of the toughest treks.

Things To Know Before Planning a Trip to Kedarnath

For your convenience, we have prepared the ultimate Kedarnath travel guide that has covered all the required information that you need for the Kedarnath trip.

Best Time to Visit

You cannot visit the Kedarnath Temple all year. The doors are only open to tourists for a limited time each year. April-June is considered the best time to Visit Kedarnath. As it is situated at a high altitude, this is the most suitable time to visit for all.

Kedarnath Trek Distance

The trek is 16 km long, it can be a little tough, however the cheering mountain will lead you to finish it off.

Registration Process

Pilgrims must have a registration sheet for the Kedarnath Yatra. Registration for the yatra can be completed online or offline. The Uttarakhand Char Dham Devasthanam Management Board's (UCDDMB) official website provides access to the online pass.

Offline registration requires picture ID evidence, which can be obtained at the Haridwar railway station, Rishikesh bus stand, Janki Chatti, Guptkashi, Phata, Uttarkashi, and Sonprayag locations. Furthermore, you must carry the registration sheet with you on the Yatra.

Where to eat?

Kedarnath has minimal options for food. As a result, one should anticipate compact, well-lit eateries. However, there are numerous tiny dhabas and cafes scattered across the neighborhood. As a result, it is best to bring ready-to-eat food and drinks.

Where to Stay?

You can get many basic hotels and homestays here. However, there are several possibilities accessible in adjacent areas as well as in Gaurikund. In Kedarnath and Gaurikund, the GMVN set up camps, tents, and restrooms.

What to Pack?

  • Backpack - A comfortable, robust backpack with cushioned straps is great for the hike.
  • Clothing - Pack hiking trousers and a few tees. The key here is proper layering, since afternoons may get rather warm, especially during the trip, yet mornings and evenings are cool. A base layer, a cozy fleece, and a dependable jacket keep you comfortable in a variety of weather situations.
  • Hiking Shoes and gloves
  • Sleeping bags - While we chose not to bring sleeping bags, having a few bedsheets on hand proved to be useful. This came in useful when we discovered less-than-clean bedding at our lodgings.
  • Identification documents and a printed copy of your registration letter for the Kedarnath Yatra.
  • Personal meds and a little first-aid kit
  • Sunglasses and sunscreen
  • Toiletries
